The Old Town Hall

Harriet Newcomb presented the Old Town Hall to the town in 1882 as a tribute to her father, Nathaniel Newcomb. She hired a prominent New Bedford architectural firm, Caleb Hammond & Son, to design the building. Many of this firm's buildings are found all over central New Bedford. Other events besides the town's political and financial business were held here. Over the years movies, minstrel shows, dances, plays, graduation exercises and basketball games were held in the hall. Today, it houses the Wheaton College Bookstore.
