OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE
In an age of information, it is crucial to understand how to design systems to manage and organize potentially large collections of data. This course involves an in-depth study of the issues involved in today's database management systems (DBMS). Topics include:
This course will combine homework assignments on theoretical aspects of database design, and a series of large-scale programming assignments implementing the front end of a database of your own design in Java.

Information and announcements will be frequently communicated via email. It is the student's responsibility to check for email announcements on a regular basis throughout the week. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK
The textbook for this class is Database Management Systems, by Ramakrishnan and Gehrke, Third Edition. Make certain you have the third edition!
